I was fortunate enough to be able to quite easily get a hold of a mattress temporarily (and later came into permanent permission of a discarded mattress), and have combined the Burlap material with this bed, by simply tacking around the main lines of the original designs of the mattress and a newly bought duvet and pillow set to create a complete set. This is a much more professional and artistically executed version of the 'Burlap Bed Experiment' I did over Christmas to test the sensation of the material on the skin over a long period time. With my recent performative actions it has been clear through my own feelings and discussions with Lucy and my peers that as of late something has been slightly off with my work. I have been frustratingly not been able to pin this down however. The foiled armour was devoid of any sort of humanity and through editing I have tried to regain this, and in the my performance entitled 'The Death Rattle' again there was a stagnant lack of arrest when viewing the work. The way I used the burlap in both of these performances appeared as a sort of comfort blanket, or bed type image, and conjured up ideas of the death bed. It has been a general criticism that the imagery in my work has been literal, which I have always found the case, and not minded, as the immediacy comes as an abrupt shock in past works.
