I did 3 experiments while wearing the armoured mesh, all filmed on my webcam as I stupidly left my camera in Falmouth. These are all exploring movement and manipulation as I wear the works. The video experimentations can all be found on my vimeo page- 'https://vimeo.com/chrisslesser'
Consisting of very slight movements, natural twitches in the hand. There is a general illusion of being inanimate. In a large space, it may be easy to miss these subtle action of movement, which I quite enjoy. Perhaps by only exposing the arms, or a small amount of the body will exaggerate this, by bringing focus to a small area, yet still missing the action. It may seem like the performing body is not there at all. Maybe the whole act is hidden? Can you perform to no one, not even the camera? I am used to private acts for the camera, do I film this or leave it completely up to live exposure.
Much more obvious yet mechanical movements. The prior 2 experiments are much more effective in delivering a more thought provoking quality, and pushing the direction of focus out of the frame to the rest of the body. This sort of action places too much focus on the hand alone and becomes very one dimensional. In these mechanical movements the metallic material loses any sort of ambiguity, the less the movement the better.
